Follow these guidelines to ensure proper healing and maximize the benefits of your treatment:
-
Avoid Sunlight and Bright Indoor Lighting: For the next 48 hours, avoid exposure to sunlight or bright indoor lighting, including bright windows, fluorescent, and incandescent lighting. Limit computer time, exercise caution with prolonged TV exposure, and sit at least 10 feet from the TV.
-
Sunscreen and Protective Clothing: If you must go outdoors during the first 48 hours post-treatment, apply a thick coat of medical-grade sunscreen every 2 hours for maximum coverage. Protect your head, face, ears, and neck by wearing a wide-brimmed hat. Keep the treated area covered.
-
Moisturize: Keep your skin well-moisturized. Cleanse with gentle cleansers like Cetaphil or Cerave. Avoid products that may irritate or exfoliate the skin.
-
Hydrocortisone Lotion: Use 0.5%-1% hydrocortisone lotion (over-the-counter) 2-3 times a day for redness or irritation.
-
Cool Compresses: Use cool compresses as needed for swelling.
-
Vinegar and Water Soaks: To help with burning and tingling, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with 2 cups of cool water. Soak a washcloth and apply it to the area as needed.
-
Pain Relief: Take Tylenol or Advil according to the manufacturer's recommendations for tenderness and discomfort.
-
Daily Sunscreen: Daily use of SPF 30+ sunscreen is recommended to protect your skin.
