Although long days spent at the beach or pool may be coming to a close now that summer has officially come to an end, the effects of summer on the skin will unfortunately linger for most of us. Even those of us who followed all the rules when it comes to sun protection (lathering on the SPF and wearing a wide-brimmed hat) may still find that our skin is now showing the signs of our summer fun -and sun damage --  with dry patches, breakouts, dark spots, uneven skin tone (and sometimes even newfound freckles) all-too-common as we head into fall.

September is the perfect time to address sun damaged skin in Atlanta for many reasons.  First,  treatments for sun damaged skin often require that you minimize time in the sun as much as possible after treatment, making this post-vacation, back-to-school/back-to-work month a great time to get started. In addition,  since some sun damage procedures require multiple treatments, starting to address sun damaged skin in the fall makes for perfect timing to be able to put your best face forward for the upcoming holiday season/holiday parties!

There are a number of things you can do to adjust your skin care routine to not only help refresh and "detox" your skin after the summer, but to best prepare it for the seasons ahead.  Switching to a more gentle cleanser, adding hydration with richer moisturizers (switching from the lighter lotions and/ or gel-based moisturizers of summer) and continuing to use products with SPF are all good ways to help rejuvenate skin after summer and help reduce the moisture loss that comes with cooler weather.

The cooler fall months are also the perfect time to treat sun-damaged skin with some of the latest, most effective procedures that we have available at Atlanta SkinWellness Center -- including CoolPeel® laser treatments. This revolutionary C02 laser treatment targets only the superficial layer of skin tissue-removing damaged skin and minimizing sun damage to reveal healthier, younger-looking skin without any real downtime. Since you'll want to avoid direct sun exposure (and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30) after the procedure, the after-summer months are an excellent time to take advantage of this great way to help "erase" sun damage from this past summer ... as well as effectively treat years of past sun damage.

Whether adjusting your skin care routine for fall or talking to an Atlanta board-certified dermatologist about ways to get rid of summer sun damage with CoolPeel® and other treatments, September is the perfect time for a fresh start ...and for the fresh, healthy skin that will help you look and feel your best all year long!
