Special care of your skin biopsy is recommended to decrease the chance of infection and undue scar formation.
The dressing applied at the time of the biopsy should be removed after 24 hours. Avoid getting your biopsy site wet in shower during this time.
Cleanse the area with a mixture of one tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 cup of cool water.
Apply the mixture to the area by dabbing with a washcloth or gauze.
After cleansing, apply a thin layer of Stratamed ointment, Vaseline or Aquaphor to keep the area moist and prevent scab formation.
Repeat this twice daily until the biopsy site is healed.
It is recommended that you keep your biopsy site covered with a band aid to help prevent infection and protect from sun.
If sutures were used to close the biopsy site, your sutures will need to be removed.
